Chrysalis Supporting Sands: Championing Baby Loss Awareness and Support for Grieving Families

Trigger Warning: This post discusses baby loss.

Every year, approximately 4,500 babies in the UK are stillborn or pass away shortly after birth. For the families affected, the loss is devastating, often resulting in grief that feels insurmountable. Studies indicate that 60-70% of bereaved parents experience clinically significant symptoms, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. These statistics reveal an urgent need for support and compassion for those going through unimaginable loss.

At Chrysalis, we’re committed to raising both awareness and funds for Sands, a charity dedicated to supporting families grieving the loss of a baby or pregnancy and striving to save babies’ lives through education and advocacy. As champions for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024, our team has embraced Sands’ mission wholeheartedly, taking part in their Ribbon Run and launching various activities to help bring people together around this cause.

Chrysalis: Champions for Sands

The Chrysalis team have been incredibly busy becoming Sands Champions for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024. Sadly, our office have been impacted directly by baby loss so this was a hugely personal journey for many of us. On October 11th, we held a ‘Turn Pink and Blue’ day, where our team members and even our office support dog, Lottie, wore Sands’ colours in solidarity with grieving families.

Sands Ribbon Run 2024

On October 12th, our team participated in the Sands Ribbon Run. Some of us kicked off the day with a hearty McDonald’s breakfast, while others opted for a 5K warm-up, and then we all gathered to complete the run together. The sun was shining, lifting our spirits as we raised funds for Sands. It was an emotional and meaningful day, full of camaraderie and purpose.

We were fortunate enough to raise an incredible £1,172.00 which we are confident will make a huge difference for such a wonderful charity, and the vital support they offer for bereaved parents. We are beyond grateful for all the donations received and would like to thank all who donated. We have been listed as a champion for Sands.

Looking Ahead: Chrysalis Sands Webinar

Our support of Sands will continue in the form of a Webinar, the date is yet to be confirmed however we are hopeful this will be offered in December 2024. The Webinar will be focused on communication surrounding baby loss.

To everyone who has supported us so far: thank you. Your contributions and solidarity mean the world to us and to the families who find solace in Sands’ support.
