In recent years, the face of counselling and psychotherapy has changed, meaning that counsellors can offer sessions in the therapy room, or through a range of technologies. Telephone and video calling is now a choice which is sometimes preferred by clients, employers, and agencies.

This course teaches the skills and knowledge to use these new methods in counselling.

Although most counsellors have gained some practice of working online in their core training, offering remote therapy is not simply a question of technical knowledge, there are many other aspects to address.

This course will explore the nuances of working online, such as how people may respond differently in remote communications, and the skills the counsellor must refine when body language signals are reduced. You will explore issues around safe spaces, trust, confidentiality and privacy of personal information. You will learn methods of offering sessions or between-session support which needs planning and boundaries.

For the therapist there are both similarities to, and differences from, working in the room.

This Ofqual-regulated Level 5 qualification equips you with the skills and knowledge to work remotely with clients.

Taught online, the course days give opportunity through practical exercises to reflect on how it feels to be the therapist, and the client when working remotely.

The course is taught by an experienced and knowledgeable tutor-practitioner. Course materials and further resources are provided.

Who can apply:

Students must already have a Level 5 Ofqual recognised counselling qualification or be in their third year of studies with Chrysalis Not For Profit.

Assessment:

Video upload of counselling session extract, plus reflective review (1500 words)
