This workshop will be as an introduction to the challenges of working in a clinical setting with two people rather than an individual. Throughout the day, students will work and learn experientially. Key approaches to improving communication styles will be examined. You will also have the opportunity to consider your personal and professional needs before undertaking this work with clients.

Content on the day will include:-

This tutor led workshop will involve discussion and group work surrounding the skills and experience required to work within couples counselling. This will include experiential work and key approaches to improving communication styles, i.e. empathic communication and active listening skills. Use of the Empathic Communications 4 Step Approach will be discussed as well as the two types of empathy. Citing of relevant research and further reference guides will be provided.

Robert Owen will be your tutor for this workshop.

Robert is a Doctor of Education (Brunel University) his thesis concerned therapy groups and criticism of the main psychological theories. He completed a Certificate in Further Education Teaching (Qualified Teacher Status, QTS) and holds a Diploma in Therapeutic Hypnosis & Psychotherapy, Certificate in TA, MBSR and Personal Performance Coaching.
