Mark began training to be a therapist after many years working in Public Relations and then as a business owner. His own very positive experience of counselling lead him firstly to be a listener at his local Samaritans before making the commitment to retrain as a counsellor.
While studying Mark volunteered at Macmillan’s Wellbeing Centre at Trafford General Hospital supporting clients either diagnosed with or recently bereaved by cancer. He also volunteered at the Manchester and Salford Counselling Service (MASCS), a charity offering affordable counselling to the local community. It was time spent at these two organisations that really gave him a solid foundation and an excellent grounding working with a diverse demographic presenting with a wide range of issues.
Mark graduated in 2017 from the University of Salford with a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Professional Practice).
Since that time he has primarily worked in the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) sector. He has worked at two of the leading EAP providers as both a helpline counsellor and as a short-term structured counsellor. More recently he has been working as a EAP Manager, supporting a team of counsellors. During his time working in EAP Mark has developed a student development programme to help qualifying counsellors, and has also co-written, developed and implemented a drug and alcohol programme for mild to moderate dependency.
Mark has also been in continual private practice since qualifying, working with both adults and young people. Although his modality is person-centred, Mark adapts therapy to suit his client’s needs and will utilize CBT and solution-focused techniques to help clients achieve their goals. His areas of experience include working with the bereaved, the neurodiverse and adults living with childhood trauma.
Mark is an Accredited member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society. To view Mark's profile click here.
